What I've learned at NIE

I have learnt how to make simple communications in English. I have learnt how to give simple presentations and how to write acadamic articles. My listening skills and oral communication skills have improved. I have made my best friends in NIE since I came to Singapore. I learnt how to adapt to the Singaporean life. I learnt how to enjoy the local food, and how to deal with the lonely time.

Useful Online Resources to Learn English

A really outstanding free site that has high-intermediate listenings that you can listen to online or download as MP3s, AND complete transcripts! You can read and listen at the same time.

Started by an American school student, this site has thousands of copyright-free online texts, ranging from "memorable quotes" to prose to "stories around the world", many of which are accompanied by audio of students or teachers reading the texts aloud.

Fascinating, hip, expertly-crafted stories, most of which are true investigations, and a few fiction, including regular work by writers including David Sedaris. Can buy downloads of individual episodes, or listen for free using streaming audio. Has been used by dozens if not hundreds of educators. Great for listening tasks for students.

A science radio archive from the U.K. that delivers streaming audio of many, many episodes that are filled with content that appeals to ages from primary school through college and beyond. Very clear, likeable show, interesting and great for listening exercises. Looks like they are planning to allow downloadable audio soon.
